As I sit here writing "Thank You" notes from Nathaniel for his birthday presents (2 weeks ago), I wonder do most parents even bother to do this?? I have always written "Thank You" notes for everything that we receive! I even used to go so far as to write them for Christmas presents but this year I decided to stop this practice! I believe that we exchange presents for Christmas so therefore it is a trade off and I am not expecting a "Thank You" note from everyone that we exchange gifts with! But on the other hand, I think a "Thank You" note for birthday presents is a nice gesture! They thought of you or your child on this special day so as a common courtesy, a "Thank You" note is nice! Now, I do not judge nor do I even give it any thought if we do not get a "Thank You" note from someone we have given a present to but I was brought up to send "Thank You" notes so we always do!!
What are your thoughts on this subject?? What is the norm?? Do you send "Thank You" notes??
I always always do thank you notes. It's the proper thing to do!
ReplyDeleteMe too!!! Just brought up that way!! ;)
DeleteI don't send them for Christmas or birthdays, but I do for baby showers or anniversary gifts or graduations... anything out of the norm. I actually stock up on them when they are discounted at craft stores so that I have some when I need them. :)
ReplyDeleteI am always on the outlook for a good sale!!
DeleteI read this blog.It really wonderful.Thanx to share with us this wonderful information.

We are very much "thank you note" people at our house. Was raised doing it and continues to be important and proper thing to me.
ReplyDeleteWe are too!! Seems I am always writing them!! I have Thank YOu cards with the kids names on them so they are more personal!
DeleteYes! Yes! Yes! I raised my children to always send thank you notes, just as I was raised. It is the courteous and most gracious thing to do, and only takes a few minutes. You are acknowledging the giver. By not teaching our children to do this we are missing a great opportunity to teach a valuable life lesson . . . to always be grateful.

Cynthia...I TOTALLY agree!!
DeleteWe don't do it for birthdays, I know when we get one, my kids don't care about them and I just end up sticking it in a drawer, I seriously think it's a waste of stamps, I think that a "thanks" at the party is good enough. Now if an out of town relative sends money to my kids they send a thank you!
ReplyDeleteTrue about the kids not caring!! ;)
DeleteWe send thank you notes! Not for Christmas for the reasons you mentioned. But definitely for birthdays. Hope you are having a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteSusan...totally agree!!! Have a GREAT week!!!
DeleteYep, I sent thank you notes for everything! For myself and for any gift my toddler gets. And I do send thank you notes for Christmas gifts as well. I still love snail mail and I enjoy sending thank yous, sometimes including a little drawing my toddler made or a picture of him with his gift. And I definitely appreciate when I get a thank you card too. :)

DeleteI think you are doing a great job 1st carrying on a family tradition and also teaching the kids not to take everything for granted, but to be aware how important it is to be thankful for all things in life.
ReplyDeleteTHANKS...it is very important to me to make sure they show appreciation!! ;)
